Business Scorecard
What gets measured gets improved. Six numbers, once a week.
What it is
A one-page weekly record of six numbers: activity, leads, conversations, customers, costs and results.
Why it matters
Feelings say it is not working. Numbers show you exactly where the path is leaking and what to fix next.
The problem it solves
Guessing, spending money without knowing the return, and quitting a business that only needed one fix.
How to use it, step by step
Step 1: Make six rows
Activity (posts or outreach), leads (people who raised a hand), conversations, customers, costs, results (revenue or another goal).
Step 2: Add a column for each week
A notebook page, a free spreadsheet or a notes app all work.
Step 3: Fill it in at the same time each week
Ten minutes, for example every Sunday evening. Use real numbers, even zeros.
Step 4: Find the first weak link
Plenty of activity but no leads? Fix your message. Leads but no conversations? Fix follow-up.
Step 5: Change one thing next week
Pick a single improvement and see whether the number moves.
Step 6: Compare month to month
Look for trends over several weeks, not one good or bad day.
A practical example
An invented example with made-up numbers. Week 1: 6 posts, 4 leads, 0 conversations, 0 customers, $0 costs. The weak link is follow-up, so in week 2 Ana messages every lead within a day. Week 2: 6 posts, 5 leads, 3 conversations, 1 customer, $0 costs. She keeps the follow-up rule and works on the next weak link.
Your ten-minute exercise
Create your six-row scorecard and fill in this week with honest numbers, including zeros. Circle the first number that is weak. That is next week's focus.
Common mistakes
Tracking too much
Dozens of metrics get abandoned. Six is enough.
Ignoring costs
Small monthly subscriptions add up. Count every expense.
Changing everything at once
Change one thing so you know what made the difference.
